A shy teenager has collapsed and died after kissing her boyfriend for the first time. Jemma Benjamin, 18, an A-level student slumped unconscious minutes after the snog at her boyfriend’s flat.
Shattered Daniel Ross, 21 — who had been seeing her for three months , rang emergency services to get help immediately. When asked at an inquest, he explained how he phoned her mum to ask if she was epileptic as he battled in vain to revive her in Treforest, South Wales.
He said: “We were talking and ended up kissing in the hallway by the front door.
We went into the kitchen and then the living room and Jemma sat down on the sofa. ” Her eyelids “suddenly began to droop” and her mouth started to froth.
The hockey-loving teenager’s builder dad Dale, 38, said, “She was very shy and timid.” Mum, Charlotte said her daughter had the “picture of health one minute, and was taken away from me the next”. Coroner Peter Maddox recorded a narrative verdict in Aberdare, ruling she died of the rare cardiac condition SADS — Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
